The Guardian 200th - Crowdfunding Video

How you shape independent journalism: a message from the Guardian's editor

How you shape independent journalism: a message from the Guardian's editor

In 2021, The Guardian celebrated its 200th anniversary.

As part of their anniversary campaign, they created a crowdfunding video portraying The Guardian’s journey and the impact its trustworthy reporting had along the way.

Led by the animation director Francesca de Bassa, in cooperation with The Guardian Creative Team, this project had it all: collaboration and a flow of creativity.

In close collaboration with Francesca,  we designed and animated the scenes using a surreal collage graphics style.

The combination of photography with bold-colored geometric shapes carried the vision of The Guardian throughout their journey. At the same time, the warm colors of The Guardian's visual identity gave the video a modern look.

When the video went live, we understood that hard work paid off! The animation visualized the editor's message: The Guardian is there to report the truth for the people, with the support of the people.
